A man is dead after he was shot during a break-in Monday at a rural residence outside Red Deer, say RCMP.
The home’s owner was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries he sustained.
RCMP said officers from the Blackfalds detachment responded to reports of a break-in at the property off C & E Trail, near Penhold, shortly after 3 p.m. Once there, they found one man with a gunshot wound and the injured homeowner. Paramedics pronounced the male with the gunshot wound deceased on scene.
The RCMP major crimes unit has taken over the investigation.
Mounties said there is no ongoing danger to the public. No other details were released.
