Canada has no jurisdiction over the American crowdfunding platform, GiveSendGo, and the court order will not affect the Freedom Convoy funding, said GiveSendGo in a tweet Thursday evening.
“Know this! Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo,” read the tweet.
“All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is The Freedom Convoy campaign.”
Thursday evening the Ontario government said a court ruling criminalized the parties with control of funds from the GiveSendGo fundraisers.
It is now illegal to have any “dealing” with money donated through the GiveSendGo platform to the Freedom Convoy 2022 protest.
“Today, the attorney general brought an application in the Superior Court of Justice for an order pursuant of section 490.8 of the criminal code prohibiting any person from disposing of, or otherwise dealing with, in any manner whatsoever, any and all monetary donations made through the Freedomconvoy 2022 and adopted trucker campaign pages on the GiveSendGo online fundraising platform,” said the Government of Ontario.
