Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said his government is committing an additional $10 million to Ukraine.

During the Friday press conference, Kenney called Russia’s attack on Ukraine “crimes against humanity” and said Putin is committing “deplorable war crimes.”

Kenny highlighted the Alberta government’s commitment to “provide as much support” and solidarity as possible, including the $1 million in support to humanitarian relief the province has already sent.

In addition, he pointed to the province’s ban on Russian-made products by the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission and the divesting of Russian funds and assets by the Alberta Investment Management Corporation.

Kenney has also instructed the immigration minister to accelerate applications of Ukrainian nationals applying for permanent residence in Alberta.

“Today I am announcing additional support for Ukraine,” said Kenney acknowledging what he called a “deep historical human connection between Alberta and Ukraine.”
