Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has slammed Canadian authorities saying it’s unacceptable for the vital Ambassador Bridge to be hit by truckers’ Freedom Convoy rigs.

The bridge from Windsor to Detroit has been hit with closures and traffic disruptions since the start of the week.

Democrat Gretchen Whitmer said the closure was “unacceptable” for Michigan families, businesses, adding it’s “imperative that Canadian local, provincial and national governments de-escalate this economic blockade.”

More than 10,000 trucks pass across the bridge every day when it’s fully open.

Police said a full closure came about 8 p.m. (EST) Monday night, but about 6 a.m. the next day truckers relented and let some traffic flow on the bridge between Windsor and Michigan.

“Officers will maintain a visible police presence to ensure order and public safety,” Windsor police tweeted Tuesday.

“We wish to thank everyone for their patience in dealing with traffic delays.”

Premier Doug Ford tweeted the span is not only a “vital trade artery between Canada and the U.S.,” but many essential workers, including healthcare workers, also rely on it to get to and from work.
