Peterborough police have located the mother involved in an incident involving the discovery of an ‘early-term fetus’ at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s-In-Chains in September.

On Tuesday (Oct. 5), police issued a release stating that the mother had been found.

“Peterborough Police Service would like the public to know that the mother involved in this incident has been located and did seek medical treatment. No charges will be laid,” read the release.

No further details were provided.

Police launched an investigation after a fetus was located at the church located at 411 Reid St. on Sept. 25, 2021.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and that the coroner’s office had been notified.

The Catholic Diocese of Peterborough issued a brief statement following the discovery.

“Our prayers are with the infant and the family in these sensitive and difficult circumstances,” wrote Deirdre Thomas, spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of Peterborough and assistant to Bishop Daniel Miehm.
