New Jersey truck driver-turned Republican state Senate nominee Edward Durr has officially beat out Democratic state Senate president Steve Sweeney in the race for Sweeney’s state Senate seat.
Durr beat Sweeney for the 3rd District seat 52 to 48 percent, according to data from The New York Times.
Sweeney had led the state Senate since 2010. When he defended his seat back in 2017, he reportedly spent nearly $20 million on what has since become one of the most expensive legislative races in the country.
Durr reportedly spent just $153 on his election campaign, with $67 of that going towards Dunkin Donuts.

He made the decision to run for state Senate after being denied a concealed carry permit despite having a clean record.
Durr promised voters that if elected, he would work towards lowering property taxes, and creating a business-friendly environment.
