Left-wing Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin may face criminal charges for his shooting of a cinematographer and producer on the set of a western movie filmed in New Mexico, Santa Fe prosecutors have indicated. Mr. Baldwin fired a loaded gun, killing Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Santa Fe County prosecutor Mary Carmack-Altwies has confirmed that “everything at this point, including criminal charges, is on the table,” speaking to the New York Times on Tuesday.

Most account of events describe Baldwin taking a gun from a set weapons master who claimed the gun was unloaded and safe.

There were an enormous amount of bullets on this set, and we need to find out what kinds they were,” said Carmack-Altwies of an ongoing investigation into circumstances of the shooting. The weapon in question has been referred to as a ‘prop gun,’ obfuscating the reality that it was a real-life firearm, prop or not.

Baldwin was not only an actor in Rust, but the film’s producer, as well, suggesting he’s additionally responsible for the safety precautions on the movie’s set. Crew members had walked off of the set in Santa Fe the day of the shooting, with crew questioning what they saw as faulty safety practices and corner-cutting on the part of the film’s producers.

Alec Baldwin, a notoriously anti-gun rights liberal, could face charges ranging from criminal negligence to negligent homicide for the shooting. Both convictions could entail the New York City Saturday Night Live actor spending years in prison.
