Simone Biles has inspired millions of people with her determination and talent after overcoming the struggles of a difficult home life and foster care to become a celebrated Olympic gymnast.

This week, however, Biles faced criticism online for failing to recognize the same potential in unborn babies and mothers when she defended abortion.

“I already know this is going to start the biggest argument and may even lose followers BUT… I’m very much pro-choice. Your body. Your choice,” she wrote on Instagramaccording to Unilad.

Biles posted the comment after calling for unpopular opinions on her social media page and someone responded with, “Abortion is wrong.” She argued that women deserve a “choice,” and adoption is not the simple, easy solution that pro-lifers make it out to be.

“Also for everyone gonna say ‘just put it up for adoption’, it’s not that easy and coming from someone who was in the foster care system TRUST me … foster care system is broken and it’s tough, especially on the kids and young adults who age out, and adoption is expensive, I’m just saying,” she wrote.

Later, on Twitter, she lashed out against people who responded to her by defending the lives of unborn babies. Biles accused some commenters of misconstruing her words.

“I did NOT say I support to abort rather than to put them through the foster care system,” she wrote. “What I did imply is that you should not control someone elses body/decision. Let’s be real what you care about is control …”

Biles said she will never stop advocating for children in foster care and then ended with an angry rant against the commenters who disagree with her.

“Y’all p— me off to no end. I’m done because you’ll twist my words however it feels fitting to spew hate,” she concluded.

Biles is an Olympic gold medalist from Texas. Born to drug-addicted parents, her father abandoned the family when she was very young. She spent years in and out of foster care until, at age 6, her grandparents adopted her and her younger sister.
